Welcome Alicia — Palmista Press Expands Our Proof Reading Team

At Palmista Press, every story goes through many eyes before it reaches readers.

Today, we are excited to officially welcome Alicia, the newest member of our growing proof reading team.

And she is diving straight into the dark.

Alicia is beginning work on WHISPERS, Book One of The Descent of Self series by A. Craine — a dark supernatural progression thriller that may become one of the most psychologically unsettling projects Palmista Press has published to date.

For us, this is an important moment.

Because proof readers are one of the most important parts of the Palmista process.

Why Palmista Uses Human Proof Readers

By the time a manuscript reaches our proof readers, it has already gone through a serious editing and cleanup process.

Spelling mistakes.

Grammar issues.

Formatting inconsistencies.

Typographical problems.

Those are typically addressed during earlier editorial stages using modern publishing tools and AI-assisted proofreading systems.

But that is only part of making a story work.

Stories are emotional experiences.

And emotions still require humans.

That is where proof readers like Alicia come in.

At Palmista Press, proof readers focus on questions technology cannot answer:

  • Does the pacing feel right?

  • Does the story stay engaging?

  • Do scenes land emotionally?

  • Does tension build naturally?

  • Are readers likely to keep turning the page?

  • Does something feel confusing, slow, rushed, or emotionally flat?

Most importantly:

Would a real reader want to keep reading?

Because at Palmista Press, binge-readability matters.

Alicia’s First Assignment: WHISPERS

Alicia’s first project is not a small one.

She begins with:

WHISPERS
Book One of The Descent of Self
By A. Craine

And this story descends somewhere dark.

Very dark.

A Story About Survival, Identity, and the Descent Into Something Unknown

The Descent of Self begins with a terrifying premise:

Death is only the beginning.

The Human Side of Publishing

At Palmista Press, we care deeply about stories that stay with readers.

That means immersive worlds.

Emotional weight.

Page-turning momentum.

Stories readers do not want to leave behind.

That also means trusting real people to help us shape the reading experience.

So Alicia:

Welcome to Palmista Press.

We hope you enjoy the descent.

(Or at least survive the whispers.)

Because from everything we have seen so far…

they have already started.
