Cover Reveal: The Impossible Experiments of Nico Neutrino — Books One to Five

We recently welcomed children's author Reed Seedwood to Palmista Press and introduced readers to his wonderfully chaotic young scientist, Nico Neutrino.

Now it's time for something we've been looking forward to sharing.

The first five covers of The Impossible Experiments of Nico Neutrino.

And seeing them together makes one thing very clear:

Nico is going places.

From his extremely messy bedroom laboratory to an enormous robot factory, an alien spaceship, the age of dinosaurs and finally the laboratory of the great Professor Morton Proton, each cover gives readers a glimpse of just how much bigger Nico's world is going to become.

A Series You Read AND Solve

The Impossible Experiments of Nico Neutrino isn't simply a collection of illustrated children's stories.

Every book combines storytelling with visual puzzles.

Children read about Nico's latest problem, experiment or discovery and then have to help him by solving the puzzle that follows.

Sometimes something is missing.

Sometimes two things need to be matched.

Sometimes something doesn't belong.

Sometimes there are several things to find.

And sometimes Nico really should have thought a little more carefully before switching on his latest invention.

Each cover has therefore been designed to capture both sides of the series: the adventure and the puzzle-filled world waiting inside.

Book One: The Duplicate Disaster

And this is where everything begins.

Nico Neutrino has a laboratory.

It is also his bedroom.

He has built himself a small robot assistant called Botnic, although getting Botnic properly assembled proves slightly more difficult when Nico can't find all the parts among the extraordinary mess in his room.

Then Nico starts experimenting with duplication.

Enter one purple chicken.

Then another.

The cover deliberately throws readers straight into Nico's world: inventions, test tubes, machinery, Botnic, a bedroom full of scientific clutter and, of course, a very conspicuous purple chicken.

Book Two: The Factory Fiasco

Nico and Botnic are leaving the bedroom.

Their destination?

A very, very big robot factory.

Botnic needs an upgrade, sending the pair into a sprawling industrial world filled with robots, machinery, components, production lines and plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong.

The second cover immediately expands the scale of the series.

Nico's little homemade laboratory has been replaced by an enormous factory packed with robots of every imaginable shape and size.

And right in the middle of it all stand Nico and Botnic.

They may have underestimated the size of the job.

Book Three: The Alien Arrival

Things escalate rather dramatically in Book Three.

Visitors from space arrive.

Nico and Botnic find themselves surrounded by strange creatures, unfamiliar technology and an environment where virtually everything demands closer inspection.

The cover takes the colour and visual density of the series even further, filling the scene with aliens, machinery, glowing experiments and plenty of details for young readers to explore.

There may also be a familiar purple bird somewhere in all that extraterrestrial chaos.

Actually, there may be more than one.

With Nico involved, counting chickens is probably advisable.

Book Four: The Dinosaur Detour

Laboratories?

Robots?

Aliens?

Obviously the next sensible scientific step is...

Dinosaurs.

In Book Four, Nico and Botnic travel back in time and find themselves surrounded by creatures that disappeared from Earth millions of years ago.

The cover deliberately changes the visual world of the series completely.

The machinery and laboratories give way to a bright prehistoric jungle filled with dinosaurs.

And Nico looks remarkably pleased about the situation.

Perhaps too pleased.

Because the pair don't exactly return home alone.

Meet DinoNic—Nico's new friend and pet.

We're sure bringing a dinosaur home will cause absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Book Five: The Proton Problem

By Book Five, Nico has come a long way from experimenting in his bedroom.

Now he's going to work in the laboratory of the great Professor Morton Proton.

The fifth cover brings the series back into the laboratory, but this is certainly not Nico's bedroom.

This is serious science.

Huge machines. Strange equipment. Experiments everywhere.

And Professor Proton himself.

In fact, readers looking closely at the cover might notice something slightly unusual about the professor.

We'll leave that one for the book.

Five Covers. One Growing Adventure.

One of the things we particularly wanted the covers to communicate was progression.

Every book should immediately look like part of The Impossible Experiments of Nico Neutrino while still having its own identity.

Book One is Nico's chaotic home laboratory.

Book Two is the robot factory.

Book Three goes into space.

Book Four goes millions of years into the past.

Book Five enters Professor Proton's laboratory.

Nico's world keeps getting bigger.

So do the experiments.

And naturally, so do the problems.

Welcome to Nico's World

We're delighted to finally reveal all five covers together.

Reed Seedwood has created a children's series built around reading, observation, puzzles, humour, science and adventure, with Nico and Botnic at the centre of every increasingly impossible experiment.

Each book contains the continuing story of Nico Neutrino alongside visual puzzles children must solve as they progress through the adventure.

They can follow Nico.

They can help solve his problems.

They can learn a little science along the way.

And they can keep looking for that purple chicken.
