Readers who know A. Craine's work will already be familiar with the author's taste for darker stories, morally complicated characters and ideas that become increasingly uncomfortable the deeper you venture into them.

With Necropomp, Craine moves into dark progression fantasy and a world of necromancy, death, forbidden knowledge and growing power.

At the centre of the series is Wen, a sixteen-year-old stable boy whose life becomes entangled with forces far beyond the small world he knows.

And then there's the voice.

A dead necromancer who is considerably less absent than Wen might have preferred.

We won't say much more.

This is one of those stories where discovering how the pieces fit together is very much part of the experience.

What Exactly Is a Necropomp?

It's certainly an unusual name for a fantasy series.

There's a reason for it.

Necromancy + Psychopomp = Necropomp.

That combination provides a small clue about the direction of the series without revealing where A. Craine intends to take it.

What begins with a young man, a necromancer and a very unwelcome voice gradually opens the door to a much larger progression story.

Knowledge becomes power.

Enemies can become something rather more complicated.

And every step forward has consequences.

The Next Voice Is Already Coming

There's more good news for readers who prefer getting invested in a series rather than waiting to discover whether another book will ever appear.

A. Craine has already written Book Two.

The first manuscript of Voice of the Demonologist, Book Two of the Necropomp series, has been submitted to Palmista Press and is currently undergoing its first review with our proofreaders.

There is still work to be done before publication. Proofreading, editorial revisions and the rest of our production process all take time, and we won't rush those stages simply to get the next book out faster.

But the story continues.

And judging from the title alone, Wen's problems are clearly not over.

A New Series Begins

We're very pleased to see another A. Craine series make the journey from manuscript to published book.

Voice of the Necromancer marks the beginning of a much larger story, and we're looking forward to introducing readers to the strange, dark and increasingly dangerous world of Necropomp.
