Some people hear the sirens, see the meteors and immediately start preparing for the end of civilization. Readers have one more urgent question: can I finish this chapter first?

A truly good book has a remarkable ability to rearrange our priorities. Laundry can wait. Messages can wait. Dinner can sometimes wait. And apparently, so can the apocalypse.

Because when the story has finally reached the part you have been waiting for, abandoning it simply is not an option. If the world really must end, it can at least have the courtesy to wait until the next page.
